What is Hippie?
Deeper meaning is what the Hippie movement is all about. A search for Mind expansion through any means. A search for hope of any kind.an openness to everyone and everything.
A soul felt search for peace and justice.Bringing to a final end of all war across the planet. A return to the land, and hope for a better relationship with nature.A search for personal spirituality beyond the established religions. And above all a finding of who are what we are as Human beings..

Rainbow Family of Living Light

Some say we're the largest non-organization of non-members in the world. We have no leaders, and no organization. To be honest, the Rainbow Family means different things to different people. I think it's safe to say we're into intentional community building, non-violence, and alternative lifestyles. We also believe that Peace and Love are a great thing, and there isn't enough of that in this world. Many of our traditions are based on Native American traditions, and we have a strong orientation to take care of the the Earth. We gather in the National Forests yearly to pray for peace on this planet

Oregon Get Wise!! Legalize!

Marijuana

Known by us Hippies as Ganja,Weed,Herb, pot, It is the sacrement of all Hippies and Rastas.

Now for those of us who know it no explenation is nessissary, but to those who are outside the Movement I will try to enighten you about it,and why those who hate it would want to see it leagalized.

Ganja for us is a gift from Mother Earth the Goddess Gia. Most Hippies are Pantheists, Nature worshipers. We see the Universe itself as the

"The God" and The Earth as "The Goddess". Im not saying that all Hippies beleave this, but the majority of them do. There are those of the biblical faith

known as "The Way" who see Marijuana as the Plant of renoun that shall feed the world mentioned by the bible. Those of Bible based Rastafaiaism

also see it this way while the followers of "One Love" are Univeralist Ratas who belave that the "Creators" of the major religons are all the same "God".

But all of these sects see Marijuana as the means of communication with the "Creator".

So are Hippies like the Rastafari a Religion. But the Mainstream deffinition of a Religon yes. But Hippies themselves dont like the conitations of being

called a religion because were more then just a religon. We are also A political Group being represented by the "Green Party". We are also a social

movement. supporting Human rights, Absolute Freedom, and Pure democracy.

The point is that Marijuana as our sacrement is not something that were willing to give up no matter what the governemnt might send against us.

We will continue the use of our sacrement just as any christian would continue the reading of the bible if it was made illegal.

Unlike any other substance under the U.S. Drug laws Marijuana is not a drug. Its an herb. It is non-adictive, you can not overdose on it it does not cause

cancer, Matter of fact it can be use to treat cancer. It does not cause brain damage or any other problems that Chemicals cause. Maijuana unlike all the other

Schedule I Chemicals can not kill you. It does not deserve to be considered in the anti drug law. MARIJUNA IS NOT DANGEROUS.

The only reason that Maijuana is illegal is the cultural suppression of those who use it. An attack directly against the Hippies. It remains illegal because

were still around.

Now for those of you who are against marijuana legalization heres something to think about.

Here in Oregon the econoimics of Marijuna are huge. Marijuana is Oregon's Lagest industry. If the War On Drugs were ever sucsessful is its goals of

wipeing out marijuana as a cash crop.Oregons economy would colapse. Oregon would become an impoverised third world nation.

On the other hand if Marijuana was legalized it could be taxed and regulated. The taxes collected from the manufacure ans sales of Marijuana would be

enough to cover everything and reduce and possible even eliminate property taxes. Legalized marijuana means more jail space open for violent offenders.

It costs aproxamatly $250 a day to keep a pothead behind bars where they do nothing more then what most potheads do anyway sit around all day watching

TV eating and smoking pot. Now I dont figgure that theres very many of you working class mainstreamer who really would approve of your money being

waisted this way. We Hippies understand, we think its a waist to. But its not our fault that the law makers are so predudice.

Next time the legalization ballot comes up think about where you want to spend your money. I doubt its in provideing some pothead the Meals and a place

to sleep just because he got high.

Magic Trip

Magic trip

Alex Gibney and Alison Ellwood’s MAGIC TRIP is a freewheeling portrait of Ken Kesey and the Merry Prankster’s fabled road trip across America in the legendary Magic Bus. In 1964, Ken Kesey, the famed author of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” set off on a legendary, LSD-fuelled cross-country road trip to the New York World’s Fair. He was joined by “The Merry Band of Pranksters,” a renegade group of counterculture truth-seekers, including Neal Cassady, the American icon immortalized in Kerouac’s “On the Road,” and the driver and painter of the psychedelic Magic Bus. Kesey and the Pranksters intended to make a documentary about their trip, shooting footage on 16MM, but the film was never finished and the footage has remained virtually unseen. With MAGIC TRIP, Gibney and Ellwood were given unprecedented access to this raw footage by the Kesey family. They worked with the Film Foundation, HISTORY and the UCLA Film Archives to restore over 100 hours of film and audiotape, and have shaped an invaluable document of this extraordinary piece of American history.

HIPPIE BOOK REVIEW

'Orange Sunshine: The Brotherhood of Eternal Love and Its Quest to Spread Peace, Love, and Acid to the World'

by Nicholas Schou>

An OC Weekly writer reveals the dark side of the 1960s drug culture by tracking down members and associates of the Orange County counterculture group, who spoke of it for the first time in decades.

In the 1960s, a group of psychedelic-loving misfits from Orange County called the Brotherhood of Eternal Love figured it could turn the entire world on to the mystical power of LSD.

It seemed like a reasonable idea at the time -- the brotherhood had been founded on a shared belief in LSD's transformative effects. But somewhere along the line, the spiritual message was squashed by thousands of kilos of smuggled marijuana and hashish.

By decade's end, the psychedelic messengers had sidetracked into a smuggling operation that made the group one of the largest drug cartels in America.

Instead of enlightenment, the members of the brotherhood wound up making their mark as narcotics trailblazers: They distributed Orange Sunshine, arguably the most popular "brand" of LSD in history; created the strain of pot known as Maui Wowie; and were the first to bring Afghan hash to the U.S.

For a while, they were America's foremost counterculture outlaws, dubbed the "hippie mafia" by Rolling Stone. But the organization ultimately fell prey to greed, back-stabbing and legal heat. And when it was gone, it barely registered an acid flashback, even after biographers, documentarians and Madison Avenue began to strip mine the hippie era for material.

Yet in "Orange Sunshine: The Brotherhood of Eternal Love and Its Quest to Spread Peace, Love, and Acid to the World," Nicholas Schou manages -- amazingly -- to penetrate four decades of silence.

A staff writer at OC Weekly, Schou first wrote about the brotherhood for that paper in 2005, and now he's unfurled a true-life ghost story, interviewing dozens in and around the brotherhood's orbit, many of whom are talking on the record for the first time.

The result is a mind-blowing scrap of found history, like something buried deep in the earth -- and you cannot avert your eyes. It's a bizarre tale in which freakazoid suburban 1960s kids live recklessly, blissfully unaware of just how close to the edge they are.

The roots of the brotherhood can be traced to Anaheim in the early 1960s, when Orange County was an "American Graffiti" landscape of hot rods and hoodlums. One such figure was John Griggs, just another average low-grade dealer and user -- until he dropped acid in 1965 and became a devotee of Timothy Leary's lysergic philosophy and a pied piper for the promotion of hallucinogenic drugs.

Griggs, Schou writes, "would recruit everyone he knew -- surfers, street fighters, pot dealers and petty crooks -- into a tribe of people who viewed acid as a sacrament, a window into God itself."

This loose but growing aggregation officially became the Brotherhood of Eternal Love in October 1966. Their utopian agenda, aside from turning on the world, involved a scenario in which the group would relocate to its own island.

But such grandiose dreams didn't come cheap. Although they opened a storefront called Mystic Arts World on Pacific Coast Highway, drugs were always the primary source of the brotherhood's solvency.

In 1967, Griggs consulted the I Ching for advice about sending some brothers to the Middle East to score hash. "The book said, 'Crossing the great water will bring supreme success,' " brotherhood member Travis Ashbrook recalls.

But while brotherhood members were shipping hash-filled cars back to the States, Griggs developed a bond with Leary -- who'd moved to Orange County at his suggestion -- that was tearing the group apart.

Many in the brotherhood distrusted Leary, Schou writes. To them, the acid guru was a charlatan, addicted to fame and willing to glom on to anyone willing to help promote his great cause: himself.

The entry of the high-profile Leary into the organization was accompanied by increased scrutiny from law enforcement, which prompted many members to flee California for Maui.

Filling the void were nefarious characters more interested in money and fear than peace and love. The name of the brotherhood, Schou notes, "now was being hijacked by dope pushers and used as a sales pitch or a marketing device."

After Griggs died in 1969 of a drug overdose, the group lost its tenuous bond. Business became more ruthless. The drugs got heavier. Mistakes were made, and, in 1971, the police finally brought them down. The Brotherhood of Eternal Love was left to rest in peace.

That is, until now. With "Orange Sunshine," Schou has crafted a definitive history of the dark side of the 1960s. It's a jarring but important reminder that the black-and-white filter that many of us bring to the decade is really shot through with gray.
